Gov. Tony Evers and Rep. Gwen Moore joined state and national labor leaders today to rally labor activists as they convened to volunteer for voter outreach programs organized by the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale hosted the event and introduced the slate of speakers. “All roads to the White House run through Wisconsin,” Bloomingdale said. “This victory will belong to you, it will belong to us, it will belong to working people,” Bloomingdale said.

“I had the honor of defeating enemy number one of the labor movement in 2018,” Gov. Tony Evers said of his victory over Scott Walker in the gubernatorial race that year. “Your work on getting me elected will never, ever be forgotten. I am going to keep fighting for the labor movement,” he said. “Getting Joe Biden into the White House will be a huge relief after everything that’s happened over the last four years.”

Rep. Gwen Moore “You guys know that you are the centerpiece of our being able to turn this around,” said Rep. Gwen Moore. “We’re going to win this fight,” she said. “We are going to do old school and new school together,” Moore said about the virtual nature of the outreach effort.  “Go get em!” she exclaimed.

Shuler2 (2)National AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler rounded out the speaking program and called on participants to give it all they had, citing the particularly high stakes of the election. “Normally I would be with you in person,” Shuler said.  “You have been going 24/7 and it has been absolutely unbelievable,” she said. “It is going to take every fiber of our being to get out the vote we need,” she said. “Labor is on the front lines of this election and labor is on the front lines of this pandemic,” Shuler said of the historical context of our time. "You are the difference in 2020.”

After the speaking program, volunteers received their assignments and instructions as they utilized virtual phone banks organized by the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. Volunteers then conducted outreach to thousands of Wisconsin voters to remind them about returning absentee ballots, early voting options, and safe in-person voting on Tuesday, November 3rd.
