The USPS Fairness Act passed the House on February 5 with two thirds majority support at 309-106. The fight now turns to the Senate.

The USPS Fairness Act would repeal the “prefunding mandate” that was passed into law in 2006. This mandate forces the USPS to pay now for retiree health care contributions for 75 years into the future. No other private company or public organization has to do this. The mandate has been used to cut good union jobs, implement service cuts, and as a pretext for privatization. Removing the prefunding mandate is a key part of reforming the Postal Service, to help it provide community services we need in the 21st century.

Get connected to your Senate offices via the US Mail is Not for Sale legislative hotline at 833-924-0085.

Ask Senator Tammy Baldwin and Senator Ron Johnson to cosponsor S. 2965, the USPS Fairness Act. The Act would help secure our public Postal Service’s finances by removing the unfair prefunding mandate that forces the Postal Service to pay now for retirees’ health benefits 75 years into the future.

The Postal Service is a treasured American service, delivering mail safely and timely to families in every part of our country. The USPS a source of good union jobs, one of the largest employers of veterans, and a community anchor in towns and cities across America.

The USPS Fairness Act (S.2965) would put the Postal Service back onto a sustainable path for our communities by repealing the mandate. Call 833-924-0085 today and tell our Senators to support the S. 2965, the USPS Fairness Act.
